Have you ever browsed the Herman Cain Award subreddit? It’s chock full of exactly this happening to paranoid, deluded Trump cultists and pretty much every recipient of the award follows the same formula,
A whole stack of nasty, vitriolic Facebook timeline posts proudly rejecting vaccines, decrying Fauci as an idiot and telling snivelling liberals to stay home if they’re scared. Lots of people trusting their immune system with a horse paste + Vitamin C booster, then when they inevitably get Covid there’s a brief acknowledgement that yes, it really feels awful, followed by a request for all ‘prayer warriors’ to do their thing. You sometimes get a spouse giving detailed updates from intensive care, and sometimes they get a little bit better towards the end and give their families hope but they all kick the bucket and leave behind shock, confusion and a GoFundMe for medical bills and funeral costs.
Apparently they’re all incredible, loving people who’d give you the shirt off their backs (unless you’re a commie lieberal traitor who should be hung or BLM protester who should be run over). From their pics and their political sentiments they’ve refused to eat any vegetables since halfway through the Obama presidency just to show that uppity *&&^% Michelle who’s boss.
Most of the grieving relatives beg their Facebook friends to go and get vaccinated so clearly some logic and reality does get through to them once they’re personally affected, but until that happens it’s in one ear and out the other.
What really amazes me is that some of them never lose the delusions, even to the end. I’ve seen posts shared from people in hospital with a deadly serious case go on to spew the same anti-Democrat talking points between visits to Intensive Care while others have had close relatives die of this and pick up their conspiracy theory nonsense without even a blip on the radar. The dissonance is wild yo.
When they’re that far gone, I’m not sure there’s much that anybody can do. I just wish they’d fuck off to an island somewhere far away rather than busily breeding the next variant and hogging already scarce healthcare resources.
