Sabrina Where is everyone in power? Why are they not speaking out? Why are they not fighting against it? Where is our representation and protection? Is it because they want to look good and kind and inclusive? Not wanting to upset the loudest voices? Is that more important than women’s safety and listening and trying to understand all views, seeing things how they really are, not just how you want them to be?
I think you’ve nailed it, they want to look good and kind and inclusive, not upset loud voices, and absolutely it’s more important than women’s safety - we’ve created governments that value popularity, not, well, values.
And I think it’s also because the ‘left’ has gotten itself into a purity spiral it can’t escape - in an effort for inclusion and kindness the situation has come about where hurt feelings are treated the same as physical violence and therefore free speech is ‘actual violence’, nobody has a right to speak unless they belong to more oppressed groups than the person they are trying to speak over, and everybody has to acknowledge what they don’t know. It’s all well intentioned stuff but ripe for abuse by people with no conscience as long as they can act crazy enough to claim to be more oppressed than anybody else and win the ‘voice wars’. Then anybody who disagrees can be painted as part of the right and rejected.
It feels like an emperors new clothes thing it’s so surreal. I think most people don’t know, because it’s not in the mainstream news - but that’s because it’s actively silenced (as happened even on nuEB). And thus it can be perpetuated.
I feel so helpless about it. There is so much abuse on offer for anybody who speaks up.
