So the other night DD discovered a star studded Murder on the Orient Express movie and we watched it. It was nice enough, but Poirot (and the diversions from original plot twist) were unsatisfactory. Poirot’s moustache was ridiculous and awful, as were the added action scenes and Poirot’s new dramatic side. It was disappointing actually, I’d have thought if anybody could pull him off, Branagh would be a good contender, and he was ok enough that I convinced myself he’d just been directed/scripted badly, then found out he was the director. Fail.
So tonight we watched an old David Suchet one, and of course, there just IS no other Poirot. Everyone else seems like a pale pretender.
But he’s old now. If someone wanted to reboot Poirot, what actor currently of viable age could be a contender?
I was thinking Cumberbatch could do it acting wise, but he’s too long and lean, it would need to be someone short and dapper. I wondered about Josh Gad but I’m not 100% sure. Tom Holland is a shortie I believe and seems to be a good actor, but he still seems too young and boyish. Downey Jr could carry off the appearance but I think he still injects too much of himself into roles to become Poirot.
And actually, now I’m on this tangent I was talking with someone about who could play Man from Snowy River if it were cast now. Hugh Jackman seems like he’d be good but is too old to be the young newcomer. Thoughts?
And yes. This is what I spend my brain power on.
