Thought I would provide a quick update, as I know some of you were following my earlier posts in the AFL thread, and I received some lovely PMs.
Tomorrow is 6 weeks since the concussion occurred. He has now had a week with no headaches, which is a massive relief! The biggest issue is now extreme fatigue - he is exhausted all the time. He is managing a bit more lap-top time, which has helped with school work. He is still behind, but the teachers have been amazing and keep encouraging him not to do too much at this stage (Yr 12).
He has had 2 sessions with a neuro-physio, which has been great to help me stick with boundaries (more with XH than DS - lol!) He did a 40 minutes treadmill test earlier this week to ensure his symptoms didn’t go up with increased speed/incline. No symptoms, but his heart-rate was dipping before rising when speed/incline were increased, which apparently is not unusual with concussion. She is going to keep an eye on it, but has tentatively cleared him for contact training next week and then possibly a return to football next weekend for half a game only.
I can’t believe how resilient he has been - so proud of him. His entire life has been turned upside down and he has kept the smile on his face and just done the best he can. (Supportive school environment has definitely helped!)
