I’ve finally got Mothers Day figured!
So I have spent years herding kids , getting them dressed, packing their damn bags with a drink bottle - god forbid that young ones these days don’t have access to fresh water for an hour and a half! Sacre Bleu!. Driving to lunches that took hours to get to, to see the grandmas, and then bringing them home again , only for them to say"what’s for dinner I’m huunnnnggrry". So nice after you’ve just spent $200 on a lunch where you barely go to sit down and they ate nothing. Such a fun mothers day.
On top of that my eldest , (quite rudely really I think 🤣 ) has their birthday on the 10th of May. You can imagine what that clashes with almost every year.
So mothers day has always been just a regular Sunday but worse for me.
Then I has my genius!
I organised a birthday dinner for the oldest for next Friday. Tick. Done. Crossed off list for this weekend.
I rang my mum and my MIL and said DH and I and offspring would pop in on Saturday , NOT Sunday, as I was planning a relaxing mothers day for myself!. SHock! Horror! They both said that sounded lovely.
So today. No traffic. Yummy brunch at my mums ( with cute wee sandwiches and proper tea in old cups and saucers) and we took cake. 20 minute drive to MIL. Lovely hot lunch and wine. Delish.
Gave them both the same presents ( monogrammed silk pillowcases ( machine washable and zippered yay!) . One pewter and one a dusky rose, I did get their OWN initials though obviously 😄 . Was terribly worried once they were wrapped that I would give the wrong one to the wrong mum!
Anyway, sorry for rambling, but the upshot is - I don’t have to worry about birthday things until next Friday and more importantly my mothers day obligations are done and dusted. My mum and my MIL love their presents, were super happy to see us individually rather than the usual big get together plus we got lovely food and are happily home by 5 and relaxing. I may even pop a load of washing on so I don’t have to worry about that tomorrow either!
Tomorrow I can sleep in and relax without a care in the world, and not a twinge of guilt.
I highly recommend it. Complete genius - even if I do say so myself .
And also an early but heartfelt and just general “Have a happy ( you deserve it for just being a woman no matter your circumstances) day” to all of you lovely ladies from me for tomorrow !
