I’ve read the books. Found it interesting that the very pale blonde main character is now Asian looking at that this is now used to justify suspicion and abuse of her. I tend to agree with an Asian heritage critic I read who said if you’re going to insert an Asian in that role, it might be nice to think a bit harder about how it affects people, when you haven’t provided any positive scaffolding around it. In the books, both Mal and Alina are fair. Here’s a typical fan art.
Other than that, I think they’ve done a bang up job, though I’m not sure inserting characters from Six of Crows is doing the Alina story any favours. That said, I’m really enjoying Kaz Brekker and his crew. Might actually be the best characters in the show (like I said, not really doing Alina, Mal and the Darkling any favours). Well worth watching.
